Effect of air temperature and atmospheric precipitation on yielding of sowing pea in central Poland |

abstract:
The paper presents the results of a 12-year (1991-2002) study devoted t the determination of the effect of thermal and precipitation conditions on the growth, development and yielding sowing pea cultivars Agra and Piast. The study material originated from the cultivar valuation experimental station at Sulejów, located in central Poland. The meteorological data were made available by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management. The authors applied the method of multiple linear and quadratic regression with step-wise selection of variables. Equations were assessed by means of the coefficient of determination. In the years under study, the average yield of sowing pea exceeded 4.4 t ha-1, and the duration of the vegetation period was 107 (Agra) or 105 days (Piast). It was found that air temperature and atmospheric precipitations accounted for 87% of variability in yielding of cv. Piast and for 82% – in the case of cv. Agra. In the equations obtained, the yielding of cv. Agra was related mainly to the atmospheric precipitations during the following phases – emergence-beginning of blooming, blooming, and end of blooming-technical ripeness, and in the case of cv. Piast – to the average air temperature of the period of blooming and of end of blooming-technical ripeness, and to the precipitations during the period of blooming extended by three decades.
