abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of various methods of Taraxacum officinale control in the meadow sward on the forage value. There were applied four herbicides: Rancho EC 242, Bofix 260 EC, Starane 250 EC, Mniszek 540 SL and two mechanical methods, consisting in pulling out and mowing. The experiment was conducted in 2007-2009 on a permanent meadow in the village of Żelków near Siedlce (geographical coordinates: 52o08’49” N and 22o11’20” E). Plot area was 9 m2. During each vegetative period three cuts were collected. Detailed study included estimations of the content of total protein (%), sugars (%), crude fibre (% DM) and dry matter digestibility (%). The obtained results were evaluated statistically by using analysis of variance for one factor experiments. Means differentiation was verified by Tukey’s test at  = 0.05. The used methods of Taraxacum officinale control did not influence significantly the sugar-protein ratio of dry matter in the studied material. The crude fibre content in the analysed plant material, regardless of the study years, ranged from 24.34% to 27.21%. At all experimental objects, both the sugar-protein ratio and crude fibre content did not exceed acceptable standards of nutrition. Statistical analysis showed a significant effect of research years and the methods of dandelion control on crude fibre content and the level of digestibility, and significant interaction of these two factors.
