abstract:  The study describes the role of phytoplankton in aquatic ecosystems and the threats that are posed by eutrophication of the bodies of water used for municipal or agricultural purposes. A measuring set and the luminescence method of measuring chlorophyll a content in active phytoplankton have been presented. The luminescence method was compared with the commonly used method of spectrophotometric determination of chlorophyll a concentration.
