Total contents of selected heavy metals in forest soils of Roztocze National Park (RPN)

abstract: The aim of the study was to determine total contents of Pb, Zn, and Cu in rusty soils under the forests of the Roztocze National Park. In each outcrop samples were taken from horizons Ah, Bv, and C. The analysis revealed that contents of total forms of lead, zinc, and copper in the investigated levels were within generally acknowledged norms for this kind of rusty soil. The results show high concentration of Pb, Zn, and Cu in surface levels (Ah) as compared to mother rock levels (C ). Lead had the highest relative concentration (%) in humus levels, and accumulation of zinc and copper was nearly twice lower. It was observed that chemical properties of the analysed forest soils, such as soil reaction, content of organic carbon and sorptive capacity, had significant correlation with the content of heavy metals.
