abstract: The paper presents the impact of lignite opencast mining on the drainage degradation of the adjacent arable lands. Areas of varying soil susceptibility to hydrological transformations were determined and a special formula was suggested which will allow the calculation of compensations for farmers in situations when soil degradation takes place.
