abstract:
The paper presents the study results on the influence of mid-field shelterbelts and enzymatic activity of lessive soil developed from loess. The study was carried out within three raw shelterbelts consisting of common birch (Betula pendula Roth.) with rugosa rose (Rosa rugosa Thunb.) underneath. Shelterbelts No 1 and 3 are situated on the top, No 2 at the foot of the slope. Three soil pits were made within every shelterbelt: in the middle as well as 2 and 20 cm from the shelterbelt edges on arable lands. The pits were situated on perpendicular intersections in the western direction from shelterbelts No 1 and 2 and in the southern direction from shelterbelt No 3. The results revealed that mid-field shelterbelts caused a significant increase of enzymatic activity in the soil studied. The observed reaction of the enzymes tested (phosphatases, urease and protease), expressed as their activity increase in shelterbelts, points to the usefulness of such studies upon the enzymatic activity as a sensitive marker of soil reaction to the manner of its utilization.
