abstract: This paper deals with the problem of changes in germination capacity of seeds with low germination capacity after pre-sowing exposure to artificial alternating magnetic field with 50 Hz frequency. The study was focused on examination on the effect of short (30 s) exposure to B = 30 mT magnetic field on germination of four-year-old seeds of various vegetables. The results show that pre-exposure to alternating magnetic field may have both positive and negative effect on germination. A significant increase of germination capacity was observed for bean, cucumber and radish seeds. Also a positive, but not significant, effect of seed pre-sowing treatment was observed for string bean and spinach. A decrease of germination capacity after pre-sowing treatment was recorded for coriander plants.
