Relationship between cocksfoot grass yields and meteorological conditions

abstract: Based on the results collected from a field experiment, in which the influence of mineral fertilization on yields and quality of cocksfoot grass were assessed, yielding of this plant was evaluated in reference to meteorological conditions. Mean values over the last decade of the following meteorological conditions were taken into account: air temperature: maximum and mini-mum, average daily temperature measured at 5 and 200 cm, relative air humidity, cloud cover, precipitation, evaporation, soil temperature at 2, 5, 10 and 20 cm depth. Correlation coefficients between fresh and dry matter yield, and the percentage content of dry matter in cocksfoot grass and above mentioned meteorological conditions were calculated. Multiple regression equations as well as coefficients of multiple correlation and determination were estimated. It was found that the yields of fresh and dry matter of the cocksfoot grass, as well as the percentage content of dry matter in plant depended substantially, according to the presented work, on some meteorological conditions. These elements shaped the yield of fresh matter in less than 30%, dry matter in about 5% and per-centage content of dry matter in plant in around 39%. Suggested multiple regression equations enable the calculation of crop and content of dry mass in plant depending on some meteorological conditions. These estimations will be credible if the value of independent variables will be as close as possible to those in the experiment.
