Mechanical damage of wheat grain in pre-harvest period as a reason of yield losses

abstract:
In the paper reasons and effects of inner damage emerging of the wheat grain in pre-harvest period were introduced. Some cultivars of winter and spring wheat were the object of investigations. Inner damage of single kernels were detected by X-ray method, while their technological effects were estimated by SKCS. The main reason of inner cracks appearance in grain endosperm during pre-harvest period was discused. The influence of mineral nitrogen fertilization on increase of susceptibility of the grain to this type of damage was also determined. It was showed the kernels with inner cracks are particularly subjected to fracture during combine harvest.
