abstract: The study of mechanical damage of sugar beet roots resistance was conducted in laboratory conditions using micro tensile tester ZWICK 1425. The objects of this study were 3 varieties of sugar beet roots taken from two different farms. Measurements with static loading were done for two zones of roots being susceptible to damage directly after harvest. After the harvest (fresh roots) average values of breaking forces were in the range of 589.5 N (for Tamino variety at bottom zones of roots) to 850.3 N (Elan variety, middle zones of roots). After 60 days of storage the resistance of tissue against static loading increased significantly. The highest increased from 752.5 N to 1113. 8 N was observed for Sonja variety in last measurement date.
