abstract: Stability of the atmosphere is one of the factors that exert an effect on air pollution dispersion, energy and mass exchange between ecosystems and the atmosphere. There are many methods of atmospheric stability definition that use and transform basic meteorological elements data. Therefore, definition of stability by the use of different methods leads to different results. In this paper stability of the atmosphere has been defined by the use of Monin-Obukhov length method for meteorological station situated in different surrounding areas: Ursynów WULS-SGGW (situated in urban area) and Legionowo (in suburb area). Analysis of the results shows that the day type of atmospheric stability occurring at the two considered stations is similar, with notable advantage of neutral one, and different type for the night period.
