abstract: The overall objective of ADAGIO is the development and dissemination of recommendations on how to better adapt agriculture to climate change in three European regions representing different climatic conditions and agricultural systems. The project is a scientific support action to European Union agriculture policy. The aims of ADAGIO are executed in five steps: 1) establishment of working groups; 2) identification of potential impacts of climate changes on agriculture; 3) identification of potential and feasible adaptation measures; 4) dissemination and integration of adaptation strategies into agriculture policy; 5) supervision and review of results and progress. In the first step the Polish working group was established. This group is a network of experts (scientific institutions) and applicants (agricultural advisory services, farmers). In the second step it was found that the main problem for Poland will be availability of water for agricultural purposes and also higher risk from plant pathogens and extreme weather events. It was also found that present adaptation strategies of agriculture for future climate conditions are too general and they do not suggest real actions on farm level.
