Influence of tillage systems on yield and grain quality of durum wheat (Triticum du-rum Desf.)

abstract: An experiment with tillage systems for durum wheat cv. Lloyd was conducted at the Agricultural Experimental Station of Uhrusk. It was set up in the split-plots design with three replications, on plots of 24 m2. The grey-brown rendzina soil, formed from light loam, weak sandy, was classified in the very good rye-type soil utility complex. Two factors were taken under consideration: tillage system (i.e., ploughing tillage or no-tillage – only cultivator or only herbicide after harvest) and doses of nitrogen (90 or 150 kg ha-1). Durum wheat increased the yield of grain by 23.4 – 26.9% on field with ploughing tillage, in relation to no-tillage system. Large doses of nitrogen (150 kg ha-1) increased yield of grain, total protein, content of wet gluten, test weight, grain uniformity, glassiness of grain, while decreasing total ash and falling number.
