abstract: The study was conducted in stoolbed of apple rootstocks M.9 and M.26 in the Lublin region (Poland) in the years 2000-2001. The roots distribution in the soil profile to the depth of 125 cm was estimated. The distribution of roots of M.26 rootstock was more regular than that of M.9 rootstock. The main mass of roots was in the layer of 25-50 cm. Comparing distribution of roots in soil between rows and inter rows it was found that the great amount of roots in rows was in the two surface layers: 0-25 and 25-50 cm, while in the inter rows the roots were at the depth of 75-100 cm.
