abstract: In spring and autumn 1999–2001, physical and chemical properties of water (Secchi disc transparency, temperature, pH, conductivity, oxygen content), biological properties (quality structure and numbers of phytoplankton as well as its productivity based on chlorophyll a concentration) were studied in the western part of reservoir Nadrybie. The reservoir was found to be eutrophic as demonstrated by: low transparency (0–35 cm), high conductivity (319-537 μS cm-1), pH of up to 10.2, high phytoplankton density (11.5–168.9 million per dm3) and chlorophyll a content (272.8-628.2 mg m-3) as well as the intensive water blooms. caused by cyanobacteria and green algae. In 1999-2000, during springtime, the phytoplankton was dominated by cyanobacteria – Anabaena spiroides and Rhabdoderma lineare, in autumn – by green alga Golenkinia radiata. In spring and autumn 2001, green algae – Golenkinia radiata, Scenedesmus opoliensis, S. quadricauda and S. acuminatus were dominants in phytoplankton.
