abstract: The soil reaction trends, as a basic indicator of soil fertility, were addressed in an environmental research conducted in the years 1999-2008 in the Lublin Region. It was found that within the area of the Lublin Region 52.1% of the soils were very acid and acid, 22.8% slightly acid, and 25.1% were neutral and alkaline. Liming is necessary and needed on 47.2% of the total area of the soils, indicated on 13.0%, and limited or even unnecessary on 39.8% of the area. In the years 1999-2004 there appeared a trend of decrease in the percentage share of very acid and acid soils of the Lublin Region. A re-increase of the area of those soils surface has been observed since 2004, being a result of decrease of the percentage share of slightly acid, neutral and alkaline soils. 198477 soil samples were taken for tests at the Agrochemical Station in Lublin.
