abstract: The paper presents the results of theoretical and experimental analysis concerning the distribution of temperature and moisture fields in the wall of a silo filled with granular mass (organic and non-organic). The experimental tests were conducted in a ferrocement model of a silo filled with agricultural grain (mustard seeds) and subjected to axi-symmetrical thermal actions. Also the multi-alternative numerical tests were elaborated with the use of a computer program developed by the au-thors, TEMPERATURE, for the three different particulate solids: mustard seeds, wheat and sand. The results of experimental and numerical tests were compared. On the basis of numerical computation the thickness of insulating layer of grain in contact with the silo wall was defined. Taking into account the damping layer of grain during the calculation for temperature gradient across the silo wall thickness, the realistic lesser values of thermal bending moments may be evaluated.
