abstract: In the paper the relationship between the extent of overwintering and the winter losses in the crops of triticale cultivated in Poland and the main meteorological elements in the period of autumn vegetation (October-November) was determined. It was found out that the selected meteorological factors explained 16 to 43% of the variability of the overwintering of triticale in the experimental conditions and 28 to 74% in the production conditions. In the years 1988-1998 the wintering of triticale was determined in the major part of the country first of all by the temperature of the air in the second and third decade of November and taking into consideration the factors from the winter period it was also determined by the temperature of the air and soil in the third decade of December and the third decade of March.
