abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the relative impact of North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) on temperatures and precipitation in northeastern Poland and compare it with the influence of other circulation patterns such as: East Atlantic Pattern (EA), East Atlantic Jet Pattern (EA-JET), West Pacific Pattern (WP), East Pacific Pattern (EP), North Pacific Pattern (NP), Pacific/North American Pattern (PNA), East Atlantic/West Russia Pattern (EA/WR), Scandinavia Pattern (SCA), Tropical/Northern Hemisphere Pattern (TNH), Polar/Eurasia Pattern (POL). To examine the influence of different circulation patterns on weather condition we computed correlation coefficients between temperatures, precipitation totals and the indicator values of aforementioned circulation patterns. Our measurement period covers years 1951 through 2000, with minimum 25 year continuous data intervals. Our results are generally consistent with existing studies which cover other regions of Poland but only with respect to NAO influences. Analysis of the impact of atmospheric circulation patterns other than NAO revealed unexpected results. At this point the exact nature and interpretation of those results requires further research.
