Influence of bulk density of seeds on airflow resistance

abstract: Airflow resistance through beddings of maize, wheat and rapeseeds was deter-mined. Influence of bulk density and seed size on the airflow resistance in a range of airflow velocity from 0.03 up to 0.3 m s-1 was examined. Ergun�s equation was applied to predict airflow resistance. Strong influence of material bulk density and seed size on porosity and airflow resistance was found. Ergun�s equation was shown to describe adequately the relationship under examination, and as such it could be utilized for the design and analysis of grain aeration systems.
