abstract: The paper contains results of investigation of the influence of the number of kernels in a spikelet on the statistical distribution of kernel thickness in heads of two wheat cultivars: Kris and Zyta. Kris yielding four kernels per spikelet and Zyta three. Asymmetry and two-modality of statistical distributions of kernel thickness was analysed for the 3rd and/or 4th and 1st and 2nd kernels in spikelets of both cultivars. In asymmetric distributions, right mean deviation characterizes the variability of the biggest kernels – 1st and 2nd, while left mean deviation charac-terizes the variability of the remaining kernels. The two measures of result dispersion (left and right deviation) characterize the distribution of kernel thickness of the tested cultivars and permit more precise evaluation by the method of analysis of variance.
