abstract: The paper presents an estimation of new technologies consisting in the utilization of geononwovens for preventing landslide movements on the example of the Falkowa object at Nowy Sącz. The estimation was made after two years from the application of protective measures, consisting primarily in surface drainage by a system of dikes and canals and also deep drainage of the landslide cap. In the dikes system, geononwovens and geoscreens were applied. In the drainage system, geononwovens were used as a filtration screen for the drainage pipes and also a separation layer between the natural soil and the filtration charge. In the spring of 2004, several on-site inspections were made in order to estimate the technical condition of the drainage systems and the status of the vegetation – grasses whose seeds were introduced into the geoscreens by hydrosowing. I was found that the drainage system functioned very well, but the formation of dike channels was to be inadequate at 1:1 bank inclination, which caused soil washout from the geoscreens with the resultant low efficiency of the grass hydrosowing, especially at drains outlets.
