abstract: The dynamics of annual growth as well as overall height and breast height increase of false acacia (Robinia pseudacacia L.) that forms mid-field row shelterbelts on loess soils was evaluated. Two shelterbelt sections on hilltop and one on the slope (50 trees in each) were studied. Tree and breast height were measured every year in autumn. Measurement results from the first 7 years of tree growth were used for the analysis. Very uniform growth dynamics of both parameters studied was found in all the objects. Quick increase of height growth (mean annual growth of almost 1 m) and breast height (1,7 cm annually, on average) as well as uniform density and tree-crown ceiling make the false acacia suitable for building windshield barriers in an open agricultural landscape
