abstract: In the vegetation periods of 2001-2002, 14 representative water samples were drawn from the drainage ditch around the coal waste dump at Bogdanka. The samples drawn were laboratory tested in order to determine physical and chemical properties of the water, which was a mixture of mine water and rainwater draining from the coal waste dump. With reference to pollution indicators of third grade inland surface water, the water tested exceeded the following parameters: conductivity, chlorides, sulphates, sodium, potassium, dissolved substances. According to the division into mineralization categories used in the classification of mine water, taking into account the content of chloride and sulphate ions, the water from the drainage ditch was graded as group two (industrial water)
