abstract: The paper presents a comparison between Polish and European methods of environment modeling and rural areas development. The analysis shows that in Poland the fundamental process of land modeling is land consolidation, but in the EU – comprehensive land arrangement (basing on land consolidation). So far, land consolidation conducted in Poland has had an unfavourable influence on agricultural environment. To reverse this negative tendency for the future, it is important to include additional activities, such as land afforestation, antierosion meliorations, creation of ecological areas or land recultivation.
