abstract: The objective of this research was to determine carrot root losses and damage (Berlanda and Champion variety) occurring in the course of harvesting by means of one-row Simon harvester. The research was conducted at working speeds of the machine 0.43-0.5 m s-1. The volume of losses caused by failure of the machine to uproot the carrots from the soil were 7.7% (Champion variety) and 2.5% (Berlanda variety), while root damage rate was 12.2% and 15.6%, respectively. The share of roots with leaves not sheared off in gathered material was 7.3% (Champion variety) and 32.6% (Berlanda variety), while dirt content in the gathered material was 4.3 and 2.2%, respectively.
