abstract: Field experiment was carried out on grey brown podzolic soil, in the years 2004-2005. The effect of conservation tillage on plants emergence and yield of onion cultivar Wolska was investigated. In the experiment the following variants were compared: differentiated pre-winter and pre-sowing soil tillage (ploughing before winter + disk harrow in the spring; disk harrow before winter + disk harrow in the spring; disk harrow in the spring; no-tillage), plant mulches (spring rye and spring vetch). Among investigated mulches, spring rye created the best conditions for onion emergence and yielding. Conservation soil tillage limited plants emergence and yielding of onion. A profitable effect of conventional cultivation system on total and marketable yield of onion cultivar Wolska was noticed.
