abstract: Herein we present an overview of the fate and role of calcium in plants. The article covers Ca2+ uptake and transport mechanisms within the plant. Particular attention is given to the role and structure of proteins (Ca2+ -ATPases, calcium channels, H+/Ca2+ -antiporters) involved in these processes. We present the structure of transporters on biochemical and molecular level.
