abstract: The aim of the paper is to examine statistical relations between hydrological elements on a grassland situated in a river valey. Measurements of groundwater level and water reserves in 0-30 cm soil layer were used for statistical analyses. They describe the water relations and are useful in determining retention changes. The research was conducted at the irrigation object of Ochoża in 1999-2002.The results received from 7 points situated in the middle of draining plot are used in the paper. Methods of linear regression are used to determine the relation between the variables. Regression dependence of water reserves on the groundwater level is considered for each of the measuring points. Next, additional explanatory variable – water reserves received in previous month - was considered. Regression equations in accordance with the presence or absence of the additional explanatory variable are compared.
