abstract: Making use of the data on ten-day period and monthly totals of hours with the sun included in Biuletyny Meteorologiczne IMGW (Meteorological Bulletins of IMGW), gathered in the years 1971-2000 by 5 meteorological stations, the time and spatial distribution of sunshine in the area of the Polish coast of the Baltic Sea was worked out. Due to the lack of measurements of this element for a longer period of time in the region of Pomeranian Bay, monthly values of the state of the sky in the years 1956-1990 from available meteorological stations were used and that enabled detailed characteristics of sunshine on the coast. The gathered data were the basis for determining time tendencies, variability and probability of a defined number (2, 4, 6, 8, 10) of hours with the sun. Taking into consideration the totals of hours with the sun and their variability expressed by the standard deviation, an index of sunshine resources (W) was calculated and on its basis 3 zones of differentiated resources of real sunshine in four seasons of the year and in the whole year along the Baltic coast were determined.
