abstract: Allelic variation in Xgwm 261 locus was studied in 30 Polish old cultivars, using SSRs methods. DNA was amplified after extraction with two WMS 261 primers. DNA fragments from PCR were separated on polyacrylamide gel. Investigated common wheat cultivars showed allelic variation in Xgwm 261 locus on the basis of microsatellite analysis. The highest alleles frequency was observed for a 197 bp fragment and for 165 bp and 174 bp fragments. The 192 bp fragment size linked with Rht8 dwarfing gene was observed in three cultivars: Aria, Grana and Luna
