abstract: Hydrological changes observed in soils situated in the neighbourhood of opencast brown coal mines depend on the distance from the opencast working, soil texture, location in the given region, which is associated with a specific type of water regime system. This article presents all these correlations together with their brief characterisation as exemplified by soils derived from the Konin-Turek Brown Coal Mining Centre. Soil zones with different sensitivity to degradation were identified and degrees of the advancement of this process were presented giving as examples approximately 50 villages, which belong to several communes directly adjacent to the KWB "Konin" opencast mines in Kleczew.
