abstract: . Investigations were conducted to estimate the influence of shape and packing structure of seeds on airflow resistance. Relationships between pressure drop Δp and airflow velocity V were determined in cubic samples of rye and rapeseed prepared using different filling methods. Samples of 0.35 m side contained approximately 35 kg of clean material. Three methods of filling the apparatus were applied, one of them producing asymmetric bedding. Pressure drop was measured in three mutually perpendicular directions: vertical (Z) and two horizontal (X) and (Y), Eleven levels of airflow velocity were applied in the range from 0.03 to 0.35 m s-1. Obtained results have shown that shape of seeds and filling method strongly influenced pressure drop. Pressure drop was also found to be dependent on the airflow direction. Compaction of the sample along vertical direction resulted in an increase of pressure drop, but ratios of airflow resistances in three directions were found unchanged.
