abstract: In this paper thermal and snowy conditions in Biebrza Valley during 1980/1981-2004/2005 are presented. The data used in the study came from meteorological station which belongs to IMGW and is located in Biebrza. The following data were used: maximum, minimum and mean diurnal air temperatures as well as thickness of snow cover. Meteorological conditions were analysed by using numerical indices proposed by Paczos and referred to thermal severity and snowiness of winters. Moreover the occurrence of long-lasting sown cover was described. The results proved that in the analysed period 1981/1982-2004/2005 the most severe was the winter of 1995/1996 (Wo = 7.09). The mildest winters were recorded in 1989/1990 (Wo = 1.18) and in 1988/1989 (Wo = 1.18) that was also the least snowy winter (W¶ = 0.37). Whereas the most snowy (W¶ = 6.18) and very severe (Wo = 6.30) was the winter of 1986/1987.
