abstract:
For improvement of fruit quality different agrotechnical measures, also based on the use of substances from the group of growth hormones, are applied in orchards. Spraying of ovaries with concoctions that include GA3 can increase fruit firmness at harvest and after storage. In this study the effect of plum (cv. Top) orchard spraying with Gibrescol, in different doses and periods, on fruit mechanical properties was estimated. Methods for studying plum firmness (penetration and compression) allowed the determination of the resistance of fruit tissue, deformation, work of de-formation, and modulus of elasticity. Firmness of fruit estimated by determinated parameters de-creased with increasing maturity of plums. The study showed also a tendency for plum firmness to increase with earlier time of application of the concoction.
