abstract: Winter rye (Secale cereale L.) – varietiety Rostockie was studied. The plants were grown in nutrient solution at pH = 7 and after reaching shooting stage the pH of the solution was adjusted to pH = 4.5 and various zinc (ZnCl2) amounts (from 0 to 400 mg Zn kg-1) were added. Nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms were measured at 78K using Sorptomatic 1990 made by Fisons. At higher concentrations of Zn+2 (200 and 400 mg dm-3) the root surface area increased and average adsorption energy decreased, as compared with the roots grown without zinc addition 20 mg dm-3 Zn+2 did not induce significant changes in root surface properties.
