abstract:
ClO2 water solution disinfection was applied to produce radish seeds sprouts. The ClO2 decomposition rate in 10% seeds suspension was investigated. The seeds were sprouted on ClO2 soaked blotting paper in a broad range of concentrations between 1 and 1 000 ppm for up to 6 days. The formation of abnormal seedlings was observed for concentrations above 10 ppm. The seeds tolerance to ClO2 solutions treatment lasting for 1 hour and 6 hours was studied. The ClO2 solution concentration range was from 50 to 1000 ppm. The seeds showed tolerance to 1 hour ClO2 solutions treatment in the concentration range of 50 to 500 ppm. Two methods of radish sprouts production were tested: 1 hour seed disinfection with the 200 ppm ClO2 solution and the sequential seeds sprouting in pure water as well as seeds sprouting in the 5 ppm ClO2 solution.
