abstract: The objective of presented study was an investigation of the relations between the main soil water characteristics of soil mixtures of two fractions: 1.0 > >0.75 mm and 0.1 > 0.063 mm. The different shapes of water desorption curves , resulting from the different content of described fractions, were analysed. The results showed that the relation between very fine sand fraction content and capillary water capacity was non-linear, but plant-available water content and field water capacity increased linearly with the very fine sand fraction content. It was also observed that for the matric potential values below 2.9 kPa the correlations between soil specific surface area and water retention were statistically insignificant, but for highest matric potential values the correlation coefficient achieved values above 0.9 and was statistically significant at the level of α = 0.01.
