abstract: The aim of the study was the evaluation of the influence of the ecological and conventional cropping systems on microfungi community and soil microbial activity. The results of the study indicated that soil under winter wheat in the ecological production system was characterised by higher numbers of bacteria and fungi and respiration and dehydrogenase activity compared to the soil in conventional production system with monoculture of winter wheat. The numbers of microorganisms and respiratory activity were lower in the 10-20 cm than 0-10 cm soil layer. Better genus and species fungal composition was established in soil under ecological than conventional system.
