abstract: Analysis of potato leaves photosynthetic activity changes was based on a field experiment carried out in 1998-2000 on a good rye complex soil in Central-Eastern Poland. The experiment was performed by means of randomized blocks in three replications. 11 potato cultivars from medium-late group (Ania, Anielka, Arkadia, Fregata, Grot, Klepa, Omulew, Rybitwa, Rywal, Salto, and Vistula) were the study objects. Chlorophyll a and b content in fresh leaves mass and fluorescence parameters: maximum efficiency of PS II photo system in the dark (FV/Fm), PS II efficiency in the light (F’V/F’m), current electron number in PS II under conditions of accom-modation to light (ΦPSII), coefficient of photochemical (Qp) and non-photochemical (Qn) fluores-cence quenching, were measured. It was affirmed that there is a possibility to use some of chosen chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in estimative drought stress tolerance level of different potato cultivars and families. Genetic features of measured cultivars became different mostly due to photosynthetic potato efficiency parameters.
