abstract: In the field experiment with conservation tillage of onion cv.’Wolska’ the state and degree of primary and secondary weed infestation were evaluated. In the investigations three methods of soil tillage and two cover crop mulches - spring rye (Secale cereale) and spring vetch (Vicia sativa) - were considered. The weed infestation of field after winter was significantly stronger after zero tillage and after pre-winter disking than after ploughing. The primary weed infestation of onion significantly increased after conservation tillage compared to after conventional tillage. The pre-sowing disking reduced the level of primary and secondary weed infestation of onion in comparison with onion grown from direct sowing. Rye mulch had a better effect on decrease of onion primary weed infestation than mulch from spring vetch.
