abstract: Influence of NaCl content in Hoagland’s medium – in concentrations of 25, 50, 75, 100 and 150 mmol dm-3 – on growth of seedlings of winter barley (cv. Sigra and Horus) was studied under controlled conditions. At low concentrations NaCl increased the fresh and dry matter in var. Sigra. A significant decrease in the values of the determined biometric parameters, with relation to the control, was observed only for NaCl in concentration of 100 and 150 mmol dm-3. The effect of NaCl on seedlings of the studied cultivars was varied, which permits the conclusion that the response to salinity is a variety-related feature here.
