abstract: The focus of the paper is to present two ground-based methods of teledetection: sounding of atmosphere using a correlation spectrometer and acoustic sounding. Methodological principles of these techniques are described. Their possible applications for air quality monitoring in rural areas are discussed as well. Twenty-years experience of IMWM - branches in Cracow and Katowice - in the practical implementation of the presented methods was used. Acoustic sounding data from the research station of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Management of Jagiellonian University were used too.
