abstract: In three-year field experiment located on podzolic soil the effect of various ways of one-year fallow cultivation on rye yielding was investigated. The following ways of fallowing were applied: A – bare fallow (agrotechnical), B – mechanical and herbicide fallow, C – herbicide fallow (Roundup 3 l ha-2), D – green fodder fallow, and E – green-manure fallow. Both variants of green fallow were sown by mixture of common oat and field pea. Weed infestation of rye, grain yield and its structure were investigated. It was found that the best conditions for destroying weeds were created by mechanical and herbicide fallow, whereas green fallow caused an increase in rye weed infestation. From the point of view of the quantity of grain yield, mechanical and herbicide fallow turned out to be the best forecrop for rye, whereas the worst one was bare fallow with frequent agrotechnical measures. Using Roundup on the fallow evidently decreased the number of productive stalk on a unit of area.
